Mission Report

Mission Report for Second 6 Months of 2010

We thought that you might like to see how your very generous contributions for mission projects have accumulated. Funds were then sent to the designated project.

In July $2,093 was given to Heifer International.  Heifer is an organization that helps children and families around the world receive training and animal gifts that help them become self-reliant.

In August 125 school bags were made. In addition $1,193 was given to cover shipping and to purchase additional supplies for filling more bags. These were then taken by Joan Gregg, Jeanette Baer and Ron Wohlstein to the Midwest Mission Distribution Center near Chatham, Illinois to be shipped to their destination.

In September $3,689 was donated in response to the CROP Walk for Church World Service, Mattoon Food Center, Charleston Food Pantry, and Soup Stop. Wesley UMC had 23 walkers and scores of generous donators.

In October $1,000 was donated for aid to the people of Pakistan following the record setting flooding there.

In November $975 was given for U.S. disaster relief. This is a general project fund to allow monies to be immediately ready for whatever is the next disaster in the U.S.

In December the Advent offering was a three-part effort. As of December 31, the three-part offering total was $3,231, which will support Soup Stop, Golden Cross, and World Hunger/Poverty.  The silk poinsettias raised an additional $640 for the Hunger/Poverty project.

In addition to these monthly projects, there were donations of $100 to Chaddock Children’s Home, $100 to Baby Fold, $100 for Habitat for Humanity, $1,450 to Wesley Foundation, $5,500 to Coalition for People in Need, and $362 for the Haiti Children's Project. These donations were given by individuals or Sunday School classes. Wesley also supported two missionaries (in China and Costa Rica), Coles County Habitat for Humanity, Wesley Foundation at EIU, and scholarships in Liberia through budgetary funds.

It is the feeling of the Missions Work Area that the first priority for our giving should be the General Fund which pays the salaries of Wesley UMC employees, heating/cooling bills, roof repairs and all the many other costs involved in carrying on the work of the church.  That is so very important.  But we have been so impressed with the generosity of the people here at Wesley.  We call that "putting our money where our mouth is."  And that's a good thing.  So again, thank you very much for your support.
