Wesley Mission Ministries
Wesley responds to the many blessings that God has generously bestowed on us by seeking to be actively involved in helping those in need in our community and beyond. In 2007 about 15% of all money spent by the congregation went to mission and social justice ministries. Much of this money is raised through the monthly mission project which is selected and then presented to the congregation by the Work Area on Missions. Members of Wesley also donate many hours annually to local ministries such as the Food Pantry, HOPE, Habitat for Humanity, the Coalition for People in Need, CUP Prison Ministry, the CROP Walk for Hunger, and the Charleston Civic Association.
As a United Methodist Church, our ministries extend far beyond our local region to our nation and our world through conference apportioned giving as well as through designated giving. The conference benevolence supports conference church camping program, Wesley Foundation campus ministries, and specialized ministries like Chaddock, a residential treatment center for children in Quincy; the chaplaincy program at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria; and many, many others. Wesley also supports two sets of missionaries, Connie Wieck in China and Roy and Janet May in Costa Rica.
We also provide support for our conference homes for troubled and abused children and youth, and for specialized ministries with marginalized groups.
