About the Ministry

The music programs at the Wesley United Methodist Church are an integral part of not only the Sunday services, but also numerous other aspects that are affiliated with the WUMC. Choral anthems for church services, soloists for weddings, funerals, and other church events are provided by the music ministry.

Descriptions

Chancel Choir


The adult choir is a volunteer ensemble that performs weekly on Sundays.  This ensemble is for high school students through adults, and performs a variety of high-quality 4-6  part harmony literature.   Typically, this ensemble performs at both services on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month, and the early service on the second Sunday. 

 The adult choir meets once a week on Wednesday’s from 7- 8:15pm (rehearsals start at the end of August and end in May), and performs a yearly Christmas cantata, as well as a variety of literature throughout the year..  If you would like to know more about the Adult Choir, email Michael Mellott or call the church at (217)- 345-3917.





Handbell Choir


The WUMC Bell Choir meets Tuesdays from 6- 7pm, in the choir room, September through May. 

The Bell Choir plays for both services on the 4th Sunday of the month during the church music season, We also play for special occasions such as the Christmas Cantata, Easter Sunday, and our Great Day of Music in May.

Music reading ability is a plus, but some of us are still learning, so jump right in!

Children's Music


The Children’s choir is for all 1st-6th graders that want to participate in a performance based church ensemble.  They typically perform once a month during the church services (starting in September and ending in May) and perform a Christmas and Spring musical.    Their performances include a variety of sacred literature such as: church hymns, contemporary Christian, Christian musicals and praise songs. 

 The children meet once a week on Wednesday’s from 5-6:30pm (with occasional Saturday rehearsals).  Dinner is provided from 5-5:30, and the rest of the time is spent with kids practice songs and prepare for performances.   If you would like to know more about the Children’s Choir, please email Michael Mellott or call the church at (217)- 345-3917.
